¡Hola, reflection-ready amigos! Let’s talk about the elephant in the workshop room: getting real feedback as a facilitator is harder than teaching a flamingo to dance salsa! Sure, your participants say “Great job!” and “Thanks for the session!” But deep down, you know there’s always room for improvement.
That’s why we’ve created this candid self-assessment quiz. It’s time to be your own tough-love coach and answer these questions with more honesty than your abuela when she tastes your first attempt at paella! 🥘
How to Use This Quiz
Rate yourself on each question using this scale:
- 1 = Ay caramba! Need serious work here
- 2 = Not my finest salsa move
- 3 = Solid but not spectacular
- 4 = Almost as good as taco Tuesday
- 5 = ¡Perfecto! Could teach others
Pro Tip: For best results, complete this assessment thinking about your last 3-5 workshops. One workshop might be a fluke – a pattern tells the real story!
Part 1: Before the Workshop Magic ✨
- When participants walk in, is your room set up and ready to go, or are you still running around like a chicken without its cabeza?
- Do you know your workshop content so well you could facilitate it in your sleep (though we don’t recommend that)?
- Have you prepared multiple ways to explain complex concepts, or do you just hope everyone “gets it” the first time?
- Do you have backup plans for when things go wrong, or do you just cross your fingers and hope for the best?
Part 2: During the Workshop Fiesta 🎉
- Can you name three specific things about each participant by the end of your workshop, or do they blur together like a poorly mixed margarita?
- When someone raises a challenging question, does your heart rate stay as steady as a metronome, or does it do the cha-cha?
- Do you actually wait 7 seconds after asking a question, or do you fill the silence faster than a hungry person grabs the last taco?
- When discussions go off-track, can you redirect with the grace of a matador, or do you panic like a rookie bullfighter?
- Do you genuinely welcome different viewpoints, or do you secretly wish everyone would just agree with your perspective?
Part 3: Reading the Room 👀
- Can you spot a checked-out participant faster than you can spot a ripe avocado?
- Do you notice and address group dynamics, or do you pretend tensions don’t exist (like that time you burned the rice but served it anyway)?
- When energy levels drop, do you have sure-fire ways to re-engage the group, or do you just talk louder?
Part 4: The Technical Stuff 🔧
- Is your time management as precise as your abuela’s secret recipe, or more like “we’ll get there when we get there”?
- Do you adapt your facilitation style to different learning preferences, or is it one-size-fits-all like a cheap sombrero?
- Can you handle technical difficulties with the calm of a zen master, or do you turn into a panic piñata?
Part 5: The Follow-Through 🎯
- Do you end sessions with clear action items, or is it more like “thanks for coming, buena suerte!”?
- After each workshop, do you reflect on what you could improve, or do you just celebrate that it’s over?
- Do you actively seek ways to level up your facilitation game, or are you comfortable in your comfort zone?
Scoring Your Self-Assessment 📊
Add up your points and see where you stand:
- 80-90 points: ¡Magnífico! You’re a facilitation maestro! But remember, even maestros keep practicing.
- 65-79 points: Muy bien! You’re rocking it, with some spicy areas for growth.
- 50-64 points: You’re on your way! Keep adding new tools to your facilitator’s toolkit.

Now What? 🚀
Look at your lowest-scoring questions – these are your growth opportunities! For each area where you scored 3 or below, ask yourself:
- What specific actions could help me improve in this area?
- Who could I learn from or observe to develop these skills?
- What’s one small step I could take in my next workshop?
The Facilitator’s Promise 🤝
Being honest with yourself isn’t easy – it takes more courage than eating your first jalapeño! But remember: great facilitators aren’t born, they’re grown through reflection, practice, and a willingness to keep learning.
Make this assessment a regular part of your facilitation practice. Try it after each workshop or monthly. Watch your scores improve as you grow, and celebrate your progress like it’s Cinco de Mayo! 🎉
Remember: The goal isn’t perfection – it’s progress. Even the most experienced facilitators have areas where they can improve. The key is to stay curious, keep learning, and never lose your passion for creating amazing workshop experiences!
